Wisconsin State Capitol & Governor’s Residence Christmas Trees to Be Harvested November 17th in Gillett

GILLETT, Wis. – The 2025 Wisconsin State Capitol Rotunda Christmas Tree and the Governor’s Residence Christmas Tree will be harvested on Monday, November 17, at approximately 10:00 a.m. at 7705 County Rd V in Gillett, Wisconsin.

This year’s trees will be harvested by Henry Schienebeck and members of the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association (GLTPA), in partnership with the Wisconsin Christmas Tree Producers Association (WCTPA) and the Wisconsin Department of Administration. Members of the media are invited to attend the harvest.

Dave and Mary Vander Velden, retired Christmas tree growers and longtime WCTPA members, are the former owners of Whispering Pines Christmas Trees in Oconto County. Over their 30+ years in the industry, the Vander Veldens grew Whispering Pines into one of Wisconsin’s most recognized farms, known for its family focus and commitment to quality. Dave served 12 years on the WCTPA Board of Directors and two years as President, helping to advance the state’s Christmas tree industry through education and sustainability efforts.

The Capitol Rotunda tree—standing approximately 30 feet tall—is a cherished tradition that fills the heart of Madison each holiday season. This year’s theme, as announced by Governor Tony Evers, is “The Learning Tree,” celebrating Wisconsin’s educators and school staff as part of the state’s Year of the Kid. The tree will be decorated with handmade ornaments from students across Wisconsin and lit during a public ceremony on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at noon inside the Wisconsin State Capitol.

“We’re proud to see Wisconsin’s forestry and Christmas tree industries come together to continue this time-honored tradition,” said Sarah Glitto, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Christmas Tree Producers Association. “It’s a special moment each year when the Capitol tree begins its journey from a family farm to the center of our state’s holiday celebrations.”
